Halfway through November Ellen & I took a break from the rollercoaster and headed off to the Eifel in Germany. This was for a 5-day long weekend, primarily looking for rest and a chance to contemplate the 5 weeks since Koert’s death, and the effect on us.
The location was wonderful, a suitably appointed holiday cottage close to Heimbach, and just outside of the Eifel National Park. Very pretty autumn colours all around, but the weather wasn’t that great: grey skies, lots of rain and wind. We did manage to have a couple of walks outside, between the various downpours … π§οΈ
The first was a walk in the Kermeter, the hills above the Rur Reservoir and quite close to our accomodation.
The second was a visit to Burg Niedeggen, a beautiful medieval castle ruin, perched on top of a hill with wonderful views over the Eifel forests and hills.

The break had a positive effect: time to reflect and digest, and able to move on … π
The 6 or 7 rainbows that we were treated to on our route back home were a nice celestial wink too …!
