During the first weekend of October I joined a group of colleagues on a vendor-sponsored trip to Milan; it was a blitz visit just with a single overnight stay. Early flight from Amsterdam, followed by a train journey into Milan; we then dropped off our baggage at our hotel before being given a guided tour of the city. Starting at the Piazza del Duomo, we meandered through the old city together with a very knowledgeable guide, visiting some impressive locations. Pre-dinner drinks were downed before a walk to a wonderfully authentic restaurant close to our hotel where we had a communal dinner. After dinner there were various plans made to investigate the nightlife – we all set out as a group for this. As it got later the group thinned out, with some colleagues making an early morning of it …(!)
Sunday morning saw the group heading off to Nuovo Palazzo della Regione for a panaromic view of the city, although the grey skies made for less spectacular views. After this visit and lunch we split off into smaller groups for further sightseeing, and I headed off to the Castello Sforzesco. Mid-afternoon we met up back at the hotel to collect baggage and to head back to the airport.
Really short trip, but the sights were nothing short of impressive – wonderful history (in particular the Duomo di Milano and the Castello Sforzesco), and clearly the fashion capital – and an enjoyable, albeit short, break …! ๐
