Luc had planned for a cycling trip to the UK, and of course his parents helped him … ๐
Ellen & I dropped him off in Dunkirk at the ferry terminal for his foot passenger crossing and then pinned an overnight visit to Gent on the back of this; our drive was via De Panne and Nieuwpoort, and our (nothing special) B&B was in Sint-Maria-Latem. We had our bikes with us, so we were able to park on the outskirts of the city, and navigate our way further from there – Gent is not a big city, so no danger of getting lost(!).
In April 2023 we were in Brugge, which was very beautiful, and Gent mirrors this in many ways. Loads of history, and beautiful architecture – our first stops were the Gravensteen and the Groot Vleeshuis, both of which were very picturesque in the early evening. The next day was a continuation of this, starting with a nice cycle ride along the western side of the city, followed by a route that took us into the centre and to the Sint-Baafskathedraal and the Gent Belfry, the City Hall, the Sint-Niklaaskerk and the Sint-Michielsbrug.
