Pretty much by chance, Ellen and I were observers of the practice runs for the 2026 commemoration of Operation Market Garden. En route to our visit in Oosterbeek we witnessed multiple fly-by’s of various Air Force aircraft (amongst which C-130 Hercules & A400M Atlas), all of whom were practising for the official ceremony the next day.
Later in the afternoon we decided to go for a walk on the Ginkelse Heide between Oosterbeek & Ede, and the 1944 dropzone location – here we saw the impressive Vensters op het Verleden monument as well as the temporary Standing with Giants silhouettes; we were also treated to a historic C47 Dakota flying multiple passes for parachutists.
